For Military Merit

As you all know my husband is back from his 3rd deployment. On this last deployment the truck he was in hit an IED. My husband got the worst of it from hitting his head, another was injured from jamming his knee. Everyone walked away.

Hope you arent queasy. Some people cant believe he would send me these kind of pictures. Im not one to put my blinders on though. I know its dangerous. Hes Infantry. Its what they do. Alot of jobs in the Army arent dangerous. His is and I realize this. Anyways last month he was awarded the Purple Heart.

While Im catching you up on my Army wife life, he was also promoted to Sergeant in October! Finally!

The Ones That Got Away

If you are anything like me I have a gazillion favorite things on Etsy. I try to keep it around 7 or 8 pages and no more. One of my OCD features. I delete sold things generally, or once in a blue moon I change my mind about an item. Sometimes I covet things FOREVER lusting after them waiting for that special moment when I have enough money to make it mine. It GUTS me whenever I see one of my favorites has been sold. Dont get me wrong. Im happy for the seller. I really am. Im just crushed that I couldnt have been the sale. These are the things I loved so much I cant even delete them from my favorites. Some of these things were sold the DAY I got the funds to buy them. These are the ones that got away.

Remembering Pearl Harbor

Today is the 70th anniversary of the bombimg of Pearl Harbor. The surprise attack in 1941 killed more than 2,400 Americans and damaged eight of the Hawaiian naval base's battleships. Ive always wanted to go to Pearl Harbor and pay my respects to those who lost their lives that day.

If we're ever lucky enough to be stationed in Hawaii for the Army I intend to do just that.

Happy Turkey Day & Black Friday Madness!

Here is my obligatory holiday post. I hope you had a great one stuffing yourself and shopping for deals or just doing whatever it is you do on holidays. We didnt have turkey, instead we opted for a creamed chicken dinner that we both prefer over a chunk of turkey on our plates. We like the leftover turkey sammiches, just not the turkey dinner itself. Weird eh? Thanksgiving is for family, not turkey, so I will happily break from tradition whenever I feel like it.
We partook in some Black Friday shopping at 8am. No we are definitely not the midnight or 5amers. Its not that important to me to get there super early to fight with an old lady for a $3 waffle maker. If you havent seen those videos, I suggest you head on over to You Tube and see what kind of shenanigans go on out there. Pepper spray? LOL it is NOT that serious people!
Also some new stuff added to the shop.

Dont forget you can like my shop page on good ol Facebook! I will bid you good day to nurse your food hangovers now.

Not Everyone Can Say They've Been To A Ball

A few months after a deployment is over, a ball is held in celebration that its over and to remember the fallen. And just to get shitfaced while dressed up fancy. We went to the ball this time (read: I finally convinced my husband to dress up in his Class As and wear them for an entire evening). This years ball was held at the Opryland Hotel. Yes THAT Opry. Its the hotel for the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville. Not gonna lie, its expensive, but we got a room there anyway. I could probably do an entire post on just the hotel. Its pretty amazing. Its big enough for a little river to run through it which has boat rides, and at least 2 waterfalls on the inside that I saw. IN the hotel. This is what I saw when we first walked in

Unfortunately this is the only picture I took because we were in a mad rush to get to our room and get changed. By the time we walked around that night it was too dark to get any good photos. The inside has little shops and restaurants and its like walking around outside at night.

This is me right after getting my hair & makeup done by Ashley. Im pretty sure you all follow her blog Lisa Freemont Street but if you dont you should. Shes pretty amazing. And a very nice gal if I do say so myself. Here are some pics she took of my updo.

Heres my husband after he got dressed in the room.

And one my husband took of me during the cocktail hour.

And us after the ball.

I wouldnt say it was *fun* but it was something to experience. Not everyone can say theyve been to a ball.

Meet Mabel

Meet Mabel, my mannequin! Shes modern but she feels like a Mabel to me so thats what I call her. Ive been searching for a dress form forever and a day and cant seem to find one in my area and definitely cant find one online in my price range when shipping is involved so I broke down and bought Mabel. Shes cheap but hey we cant all be classy.
Despite her cheapness I think she makes the clothes Im selling look so much better than a hanger. Ive avoided selling clothes because I just dont feel a hanger does them any justice what so ever.
Everything is currently for sale in the shop!

[Apology Blog Title Here]

Yes I am a bad blogger. If Im not doing my household duties or being mama and daddy rolled into one, Im probably doing something that requires absolutely no thinking at all. Sometimes my days blur together. Im very tired most days. I wish I could be the happy housewife like this..

but yeah after you go through a couple months of deployment, exhaustion and monotony sometimes set in and its more like this..

Ive been putting off everything that hasnt been of high importance and my blog was on that list :( BUT my lil man is starting prek soon so just me and my little miss, I think Ill be able to keep up more. I have a TO DO list thats a mile long. The first thing on the list though is catching up on season 3 of True Blood..

Godric...Puurrrrr.

OH and I made a Facebook page for my etsy store yesterday. Like me!

Kentucky Down Under

Ive realized I havent posted much. Not about vintage or about life in general. So hopefully this post will catch you up some on my ultra fab life haha!
In May the hubby was home for 2 weeks of blissful R&R. We took Lil C to Kentucky Down Under which is exactly what it sounds like. It has kangaroos and dingos, sheep herding demonstrations, places to feed birds (that may or may not attack your head) and cave tours. (Kentucky has a lot of caves, its not related to Australia.)

You even get to pet the roos!

Feeding some birds. These were eager for food, but not as eager as the ones I didnt get a picture of. They swooped down on us a la The Birds and I can totally see them taking over the world if they wanted to. They scared the crap out of Lil C. Damn birds.
Other than that we actually had a couple date nights thanks to my mom coming to help out with the kids so we could spend some alone time. We hadnt been to the movies since Feb/March of 2010. Sadly I cant even remember what we saw besides Water For Elephants which was excellent by the way. Reese Witherspoon does a great job on period pieces. See it if you havent!

Taking The Plunge

Yes my friends, I have started my own Etsy shop. You can visit it here! My hopes for it are simple. I just want to add a little to the family income while doing something I enjoy. It gives me a reason to go thrifting and if I find something awesome that I cant pass up but dont need, I can still buy it! Haha! I dont plan on making big bucks and I hope my prices reflect that. Anyways, mosey on over and take a peek and add me to your circle and all that good social network stuff. Below is a few things in the shop currently.

Where To Begin?

As Ive said hubby came home on R&R and we did some things that I wanted him to be there for like Lil C's allergy test. It was a skin prick test and if you have ever had one, you know they suck. They prick your back with dozens upon dozens of stuff you could be allergic to and make you wait there while your back is itchy and hurts. Turns out, hes allergic to pretty much everything he likes to eat: wheat, bananas, oranges, peas, peanuts, oats, soy, peaches, onions, shrimp, corn, squash and probably more. I keep having to refer to the test results because its so bizarre to me. Who is allergic to corn? Special diet here we come!
We also went to see his developmental pediatrician and he was officially diagnosed with PDD-NOS which is on the autism spectrum. I always knew as a Mommy always does but its still hard to accept/admit. Therefore in addition to all the rest of what has to be taken out of his diet Im also taking out dairy/casein. Theres an "autism" diet that many have seen awesome results with and since its only one more thing to take out I figured its worth a shot. It limits an already limited special diet because of his allergies but if it helps Im willing to give it a go. Special diets have been known to help many diseases and help people live the best lives they can so it makes sense to me. Im not going to get too detailed about it. Just know that probably a good 80% of our food is going to come from Whole Foods or online specialty stores which is going to be pretty pricey for a family of 4. Yep, we're all going to do this diet. All for one and one for all.
If you read all this and are still with me, heres a few goodies I have found as of late!
