Still Alive.

Yeah Im still alive though things have been kinda hectic. No time for bloggin. My hubs is on leave so we're spending that quality time together before the deployment in a few months. We are scheduled to close on the house at the end of the month. My MIL and step-daughter are coming to stay with us for 10 days. Then we should be at the house cleaning and moving. LOTS TO DO! When you have a list that seems to go on and on, you know you are a little too busy. Rest assured Im still alive and readin blogs and commentin when I have time and something to say.

My Big Excitement

My husband and I have been talking (read: complaining) about how small our table is. I brought it into the relationship and I was single when I bought it and it only seats 4, but not even very comfortably. So Ive been looking for one that we both agree on that we can afford, which isnt easy. This past weekend we headed to Nashville to waste some time browsing around at the antique malls. Down the first row of booths I spotted this.

Yes, a Heywood Wakefield table with 6 chairs! Amazingly I almost walked right past it. (Those with kids should know what I mean. Holding and soothing one, and trying to keep your eye on the other that wants to be independent and not hold hands.) I didnt walk past it though. I stopped my hubs and we had a lengthy discussion about if we could afford it and if we could, should we buy it. It was priced at $500 and we talked them down to $400. Im happy to say its currently on layaway and we will pick it up later this month! Needless to say, I will either be selling clothes and other assorted items to offset this purchase and/or selling the table we currently have. I almost want to keep it to use it for crafting but I could always buy a cheap card table for that. Plus, when do I ever have time for crafting! Pretty much never. I feel a little bad for buying something during a time we really cant afford it, but by the time we saved up for it, lets face it, that table would be gone. What do you think? Did I make a good decision?

Vintage Goodness

I havent been able to post any of my finds from the last couple weeks. The hubs is back home and Ive been so busy but there are some goodies that Id like to share!

Got these vintage frames. Now all I need to do is make an appointment to get my peepers checked! Im not a flowery type of girl but for some reason I was drawn to these.

This cute purse has a little damage to the bottom strappy thing. (When you have mommy brains you loose the ability to summon up the words you used to have in your vocabulary, but you get the point. Anyway, I think it could be fixed and if not I at least saved it from sitting on a shelf gathering dust.

These flats are from Target. I love red shoes. With little ones flats are best but if it had a little wedge I think I would love them a little bit more.

I won these curtains off ebay a few weeks ago. I bought them for the house we dont yet own. Im not even sure if theyll fit on the windows but I took a chance. If not I guess I can always resell them?

I got one more exciting find but Ill have to save that for another day. Tootles!

Nifty Money Savers N Tips!

1. Use cookie cutters for fun sammiches for your kiddies. Ive been buying different shape/holiday cutters since before my son was born! Your kids could also use them to make fun shapes in playdoh, you could use them as stencils for walls, paper, decorations, and maybe make a fun shaped cookie every now and then!

2. Google "free samples" and tons of sites will come up. If you see any free samples you might like to get, I recommend setting up a separate email addy because they always ask and it'll keep your real addy free of junk mail. Free samples are ALWAYS helpful. You can test whether a product is worth buying, and stretch your supply of detergent, lotion, or whatever.

3. Dissolve an aspirin tablet in a bit of water to form a paste and you have your very own (cheap) homemade acne cream. Apply to breakouts and rinse after a few minutes.

4. Find a good tailor. They could save you TONS. They can alter just about anything you have, if you cant do it yourself. Hem pants, take in tops, make that silly old bridemaid dress into something you could actually wear in public. Call and check their rates and I think you will usually find they will make your clothes wearable again for less than the cost of buying new.

5. To shrink pores leave eggwhites on your skin for 10 minutes, then rinse.

6. Instead of throwing out liquid meds or chasing around the kids who wont take them, ask your pharmacist about flavoring. Alot of pharmacies have tons of different flavors to make medicine taste better and if they dont, they will usually suggest adding it to a tablespoon or two of applesauce or yogurt.

7. Rip out and save all those perfume samples you see in magazines. Try em. Might seem uber cheap but youll get an idea of what expensive brands smell good on you before you buy AND youll use less of the perfume you already have. You could also open them and slip them into drawers or boxes of clothes that dont get much wear.

8. Never buy travel size ANYTHING. Its a total rip off because youll pay the same amount for 3oz as you would for the full size bottle. Buy travel size containers where luggage is sold or your local dollar/drug store and fill them up with what you already have at home. This also goes for all those purse size lotions. Dont buy them! Travel size containers fit perfectly in any size purse.

9. Get organized! Organize your kitchen baking/cooking supplies, mailing supplies, closet, and bathroom/beauty supplies so you arent buying things you already had stashed away and forgot about.
