Im in the market for some new glasses and Id really like to buy some vintage cat eye glasses and get my new lens put into them. BUT Im afraid that the frames will get all busted up. Has anyone out there in blogger world done this? What was your experience like? Tell me! Im dying to know!
All pics are from etsy store Vintage50sEyewear. They have a FABULOUS selection!
I've done this with 3 pairs and have been happy every time, I have had to sign a thing saying I don't hold the optician responsible if they break in the process but they never have. Don't know about in the u.s but in the uk "dead men's spex" will sell you the glasses and put your perscription. Good luck.
ReplyDeleteSo does Bibbys Rocket! http://www.etsy.com/shop/BibbysRocket?section_id=6491600
ReplyDeleteI've had 50/50. I've had a place do it for me no problems at all but I've also been told "no" by a few places because they were afraid of ruining the frames.
I have bought 3 pairs of cats eye specs off eBay and had them filled with my presciption. I have had no troubles at all! I take the to the "Opt Shop" and they turn them around in 2 days... I never had to sign anything and I usually get them back even sparklier as they clean them too and BONUS they actually turn out to be cheaper then my first pair of glasses (Oliver Peoples) so it is more then worth it :) The cheaper they turn out to be the more pairs you can have...
ReplyDeleteI have! I bought a pair of deadstock cateye frames with rhinestones on the sides like the ones in your pics. I got them for a steal in ventura for $40. Still in the plastic! I took them to my optometrist and he put the prescription lenses in for $80. He was able to tell me before hand if the frames could take it, so yours should be able to as well. I love them and get a ton of complements on them. I think I am wearing them in one of my pics on my blog. Enjoy!
ReplyDeleteThanks ladies! Im out on the prowl and when I find the right pair Ill be off to the eye doc!
ReplyDeleteI'm super nearsighted and I have several pair of vintage frames that are filled with my prescription. I always have them filled by Alyn Scura Eyewear in California. They do mail-order and they are very inexpensive. I think that my last pair of lenses (high index, with anti-glare coating) run about $100 per pair. They'll need a copy of your current prescription. I just usually go to one of the cheap mall chains for my prescription and then email it to Allyn Scura. All they do is vintage so they can be trusted with your precious and lovely frames.
