I got this little recipe from my Deceptively Delicious cookbook and they were a hit with my little one a few months back so I thought Id share. I made them with blueberries this time but you can try ANY berry and I like the fact that you can replace popsicles and ice cream with something relatively healthy. My son isnt yet a fan of ice cream but he does like the taste of popsicles which have no nutritional value. You will need:
2 cups plain lowfat yogurt
2 cups frozen berries (thawed in microwave for one minute)
½
to ¾ cup confectioners' sugar (suggested to use ¾ for raspberries because they are tart)
popsicle molds
Combine yogurt, fruit, and sugar in a blender or food processor and process until smooth. Pour into popsicle molds and freeze.
You may want to adjust the recipe according to the size of your molds. My molds are little so with this recipe I could have made at least 16 yogurt pops if not more. Like I said, they were a hit!

Roadside America
If you havent been to Roadside America youre missin out! It has every offbeat tourist attraction that you can imagine. Like this scary bunny that guards his lettuce and carrots in NC..
Who wouldnt want to take a picture with that? Or how bout gettin a photo with these big teets in ND?
I found the Bell Witch Cave right down the road from here. All you have to do is find your state and it will give you lots of attractions to choose from. Super cheap family fun!

Forties Flashback
I love love love it when movies and tv shows are based in the 30s, 40s or 50s. So, much to my delight while watching a marathon of my season boxsets of Army Wives (Ok shut up. Sometimes a girl needs to feel like someone else knows how they feel. Even if it is alot of Hollywood hoopla. Some of it hits close to home.) to see that they made one based in 1943, for the war effort of course. The hair, clothing and storyline were fabuloso.
Look how cute they all look! A man in uniform is aces in my book (ok not ALL men, and not ALL uniforms. A McDonalds uniform does nothing for me haha). Anyhoo its titled "As Time Goes By" on season 3 if anyone is interested in checking it out. I really really liked it. Its got to be my favorite episode. Its like a super quick WW2 movie.
Theres mine doing his job during the last deployment.

Things that make me smile - Kung Fu Baby
I think Im going to start a things that make me smile thing because when you're stressed and exhausted, sometimes you need something guaranteed to make you laugh n smile and remind you that life shouldnt be so serious. Heres one of those things haha

Sunday, May 16, 2010
Oh the stupid things that make me smile.
When my husband says hes been busy during a deployment I might not believe him haha. Nah they made "commercials" during his last deployment but remaking videos could be next. To be clear, I have no idea who these guys are and neither does my husband but I thought it was pretty entertaining.

This N That
I havent had much time for bloggin' so I thought Id do a quickie with pictures of a few of my knic knacs and assorted thangs!
I got this at a flea market around Christmas time. My husband thinks its ridiculous and I say what is ridiculous about a squirrel holdin his nuts? The nuts are S&P shakers! He actually thought I was going to use it. Uh no. I just want to look at him.
I love this china that I found at Goodwill for $7. The pattern is called Platinum Starburst. I believe I got at least 25 pieces but I cant remember exactly as they are packed up and away til I get my mothers china cabinet. That wont happen til after we move into our house so for now they have to live stuffed away in a box. So sad.
He might be a little nicked up but I adore the 50s "oriental" decor.
This isnt vintage but its Elvis and thats really all I have to say about that. I bought it when my husband was deployed and I indeed had GI blues.
I love geishas. These are plain white but still beautiful to me. Theres alot of detail in them that you cant see in a crappy photo.
I got these chalkware music notes for a couple bucks. Theyre also shelves. Sorta. I put little things on them and pray they dont fall off.
These are vintage reproduction postcards I got for a quarter each. The one says "Womens Wisdom: Money cant buy love, but it can rent a very close imitation." Ha! These are going in frames as soon as I find some that will compliment them.
Another "oriental" figure from Univeral Statuary Co. Im saying oriental because thats how my grandma describes such things. Hes a little nicked up too but for a few bucks I wont pass something like that up.
I got this plate at Krogers one Halloween and Im kicking myself that I didnt buy the others they had. Super cute.
So thats my stuff. The rest is packed away because I just dont have the space to display them. When we move into our house Ill be able to put up shelves til my hearts content and never run out of wall space.

Bah Humbug.
No, this is not your typical Mothers Day post. This is more of a gripe, but I will wish the mamas out there in blogger world a good one. We've yet to celebrate a Mothers Day (or even my sons birthday) as a family. My husband was deployed for his birth and of course missed my first mothers day. He was still deployed when my son turned 1, and was still gone when mothers day came around. This year instead of deployment keeping him away, hes training in Ft Polk, LA. So yet again hes missed our sons birthday and mothers day. We tried to do something for his birthday before he left but it ended up being rushed and we couldnt do everything as planned because of the flooding. We'll have to do something when he gets back. But anyway he deploys around August again so unless we are "lucky" and he magically gets his leave time in the beginning of May 2011 then he will miss a THIRD year. Not to mention its almost certain that he'll miss our baby girls first birthday. I can take alot but sometimes I just get frustrated and need to bitch. Sorry to be a drag. Happy Mothers Day!

Military Spouse Appreciation Day
Yes one does exist but its probably as obscure as Administrative Assistants Day. Anyways, it came and went. I didnt get any appreciation but the families rarely do. Everyone thanks the soldiers but no one remembers that they have families that they leave behind more often and longer than most people realize. You can say we chose this life and thats fair, whatever, but we could also get a thanks once in a while! So I thought Id share a poem called The Silent Ranks. The author is unknown.
I wear no uniforms, no blues or army greens
But I am in the Army in the ranks rarely seen
I have no rank upon my shoulders - salutes I do not give
But the military world is the place where I live
I'm not in the chain of command, orders I do not get
But my husband is the one who does, this I can not forget
I'm not the one who fires the weapon, who puts my life on the line
But my job is just as tough. I'm the one that's left behind
My husband is a patriot, a brave and prideful man
And the call to serve his country not all can understand
Behind the lines I see the things needed to keep this country free
My husband makes the sacrifice, but so do our kids and me
I love the man I married, Soldiering is his life
But I stand among the silent ranks known as the Army wife.

House Update
The inspection went well. The inspector said theres about $500 or so worth of repairs to be made. Its more or less minor stuff so we now have to wait 5 days to see if the seller will repair or not. So cross your fingers for us and Ill leave you with a few more pics of the house.
My son is in a majority of photos taken at the house haha.
Knotty pine second bedroom leading into the half bath. The second and third bedrooms share this half bath Brady Bunch style! I also love the window in the bathroom.
I love the door. Too bad none of our names start with B. I think we're going to keep it anyway.

Water Water Everywhere!
I love rain and thunderstorms but this was ridiculous! We got around 8 inches of rain within a day and a half and it basically ruined our Sunday. We had plans but when they said they could make us evacuate we stuck around in case we needed to pack up and go. You know how much two babies would need!? We didnt have to but there was more water behind our building than I thought Id ever see.
This was early Sunday morning.
This is right behind our building. That brown thing is a picnic table.
A closer pic of the picnic table later Sunday afternoon. The water had raised a little bit more. If youre wondering, NO I didnt get in the water for these. Theres a place in between apartments that was above the water.
Theres the playground! Wont be going there anymore!
If you can believe it the water did rise even more but I didnt take any more photos. Our building kind of became an island though the water on one side was just a few inches but the water did reach all the way around our building including flooding the other half of the parking lot. This is what happens when it rains nonstop for an entire weekend in TN.
