My First Carved Bakelite Bracelet!

(Other title could be "I Love My Husband")

Yes it was a splurge! My husband bought it for me this weekend as an early birthday present because he most likely will be deployed for it as usual. I actually tried to talk him out of it because it wasnt cheap! I offered to go for the more inexpensive bakelite. I thought paying $45 for one would be a splurge but he obviously had it in his mind to treat me and all I can say is I felt like a million bucks wearing it. One of the best parts? He picked it out! Sometimes he surprises me..

  1. aww, what a sweetie- It's just gorgeous! I love the cut-out detail. It's funny, my hubby says that most women want gold and diamonds, I just want old plastic! *lol*

  5. G-O-R-G-E-O-U-S! What an amazing bracelet and an even more amazing husband! The detail and color are just to die for! And the fact it's bakelite makes even lovelier!

My husband was military too. He was in the Army Infantry for nearly 10 years. I remember all those times being by myself and worrying. Talking to him on the phone (when he could call) was the highlight of my day.

  6. Lady Betty - I really think only other military wives can understand the loneliness and frustration that we endure. I hear some people complain about their husbands being gone a few days and its just like UGH! Try 15 months! And not once but every other year! I realize I chose this but it doesnt make it any easier. 10 years is soo long. Mine has been in for 6 years and as far as I can tell, hes going to be a lifer.

  9. Atomic Mama,

Your words are so true! I agree totally that some may not understand how hard it can be when your husband is gone for long tours. I am so proud of my husband's service to our country yet I am glad those days are over. He left the Army in the late 90s after being in for over 9 years. The first 3 years I was with him were the 'Army years.' Letters in the mail and phone calls were priceless. I spent a lot of time around my friends, in-laws, and parents. I know that when my husband got out, he was a bit sad. He knew it was time but he felt like a part of him was gone. The Army, as you know, is a culture that has a life and energy of its own. Being a part of that brotherhood is powerful and it is lifelong.

He still gets his hair cut in a high and tight every few weeks and whenever he is around his Infantry buddies, it is like no time has passed. I think there is still an inkling in him to go back but he runs his own company and to do so would be very difficult.

I bet you are proud of your guy! It takes a strong gal to be with an Army solider. And the fact you are a mom of two makes it tougher. But it is times and situations like this that will make your family even more amazing!
